The Sovereign Center, managed by SMG, first opened its doors in September of 2001, since then it has hosted over 2200 shows in a wide range of genres. The arena, which seats up to 8800 for concerts and 7200 for hockey, is home to the Reading Royals of the ECHL hockey league.

Besides sporting events, the Sovereign Center has hosted hundreds of concerts and other forms of entertainment targeted to all age ranges. A few of the previous performers have included Neil Diamond, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Godsmack, the Blue Man Group, Kenney Chesney, Matchbox 20, the American Idol Tour, WWE, Cher, Elton John, Champions on Ice, Rod Stewart, Sting, Kid Rock, multiple Disney on Ice shows, Andre Rieu, Evanesence, Professional Bull Riders, and many others.

Reading Eagle Theater

The addition of the Reading Eagle Theater came in the summer of 2004 when the Reading Eagle Company purchased naming rights to this, one-of-a-kind, universal theater configuration. The set-up turns the Sovereign Center into a smaller, more intimate setting for shows ranging in size from 2,500 to 4,500 patrons. Artists such as Dolly Parton, Daniel O'Donnell, Dave Koz, Marilyn Manson and Brad Paisley have all played the Reading Eagle Theater.

Together the Sovereign Center and the Sovereign Performing Arts Center have been a huge impact on the region. It has been estimated that the direct economic impact for the first ten years of operations exceeded a quarter of a billion dollars.
